Bir ... Zekreet.
The last weekend we decided to cross from East to West, Qatar: 30 minutes drive later we arrived at Bir Zekreet, on the other side.
Bir Zekreet is still (and always ;-)) but here the desert dunes give way to limestone formations.
We climbed a course to take some height.
Then we decided to stroll a bit along the different tracks: we had no idea what there was to see in the area.
we saw this oasis in the distance
and it seemed interesting as we approached. Closer was a kind of village, very photogenic.
We went around, there seemed to be anyone but then I took a photo a guy came out, his cell phone in hand and in broken English asked if we could charge in the car. We obviously agreed and invited us inside the "village". His companion, a Sudanese who spoke a little English and knew better Sarkozy and Chirac! We then explained that it was a scene for Arab films and series. No wonder it is so photogenic!
After offering us a glass of tea, he suggested we visit: the children were delighted, they jumped all over ...
Suddenly we understood why the way we saw 5 wells far seemed true but in reality were only cement tanks (with some garbage at the bottom ...) covered with stones as the false .
By starting types we have shown in the oasis (palm trees do not appear in cardboard, but who knows?) Ostrich eggs. At the end of the road main we had seen well, in fact, a sign indicating that we are entering a sort of reserve and it was strictly forbidden to disturb the antelopes and ostriches, but as we had not seen the shadow of an animal Apart from the inevitable camel we do not believe too. The eggs seemed real, some were broken and we saw the remains yellow. But ostriches point. And as they touched the eggs and we were also hit, now I have my doubts ...
way back I remembered that I had already been heard this site: it was about the filming of the latest film from Jean-Jacques Annaud, "Black Gold". He had made Featured in Qatar but did not retain this site, claiming it was too artificial. You can see a short video on the subject here .
But since few days is spinning battle scenes in the dunes . It must be nice to see!
SHIFT of 23/02/2011: If you're interested, a video about Jean-Jacques Annaud filming in the dunes , it comes out.
